Homeward
Fallen leaves beneath my feet
crackle with each step
Quilts of color blanket all
their reds and yellows kept
My winding path grows darker still
now early autumn night
Homeward bound till fireside
extends its warmth and light
Yet no haste is felt inside
while pausing on my way
Sounds of wind thru naked trees
and listening now at play
Stars begin to show their face
on canvas far and wide
The hues of dusk now fade away
and moonlight shall abide
Candle’s flicker through the panes
and glow for tired eyes
Now a hoot from forest dark
with owl on the rise
