ABOUT JOHN

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. A great deal of who I’ve grown to be was discovered while playing in the street as a child. Long hot summer days that seemed to never end. My neighborhood, Sunset Park was predominantly Italian and Irish catholic families and it seemed as if every family had more than enough children. There was never a time when someone wasn’t there to keep you company. Having been gifted with three sisters and three brothers the energy I knew transferred itself back into the house when it grew dark. I believe I began writing long before the thought of doing so ever occurred to me. I believe our ability to remember what’s brought us happiness is equal to forgetting what’s done the opposite. The flow of the rhyme and the rhythm in song have always pleased me. Finding words that sit perfectly alongside one another has been a welcomed challenge. Strung together to create their unique harmony. Hopefully one may find here a moment, memory or new take on something they’ve always known. I believe we become familiar with poetry long before ever hearing, reading or writing it. ~John Fonti
