Swings

Swings

On the Swings they travel high
then down to scrape their souls
Children as you play today
another year unfolds

Blond hair grows to shoulder length
and laces won’t stay tied
Legs that kick up to the stars
oh please just one more ride

Sunlight through the playground fence
will warm their growing hearts
Its here they learn to climb aboard
its here the swinging starts

Baseball caps and ribbons worn
for each of you a dime
Another day to run and play
another nursery rhyme

Bandaged knees won’t keep them home
all the kids are going
A summer breeze to make complete
A child's sense of knowing

On the Swings they travel high
then down to scrape their souls
Children as you play today
another year unfolds
